The second J. K. Rowling’s Wizarding World Loot Crate, “A Matter of Time,” has arrived with a masterful collection of mementos, timepieces, and undying declarations of love.
This is one of my favorite Loot Crate collections, with not only attentive curation of excellent merchandise, but an appreciation for the underlying theme that one would expect to find in a passionate fan of the Harry Potter franchise.
It is fitting that in Loot Crate’s second Wizarding World Loot Crate that the T-shirt would be devoted to whom many consider to be the other hero of the Harry Potter novels–Severus Snape: Potions Master, Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Dumbledore’s double agent in the Death Eaters, and general despiser of Harry Potter and his happy go-lucky friends. As we learn in a poignant scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, it is Snape’s undying love for Lily Potter that motivates one of Harry’s sternest antagonists to side against He Who Must Not Be Named:
“But this is touching, Severus,” said Dumbledore seriously. “Have you grown to care for the boy, after all?”
“For him?” shouted Snape. “Expecto Patronum!”
From the tip of his wand burst the silver doe. She landed on the office floor, bounded once across the office, and soared out of the window. Dumbledore watched her fly away, and as her silvery glow faded he turned back to Snape, and his eyes were full of tears.
“After all this time?”
“Always,” said Snape.”
Gryffindors, Hufflepuffs, and Ravenclaws, heed these words: never forget, and wear your exclusive Professor Snape “Always” T-shirts proudly, as one of Harry Potter’s greatest heroes is in Slytherin house. This great looking and super soft shirt, made by Bioworld, would have been my favorite item this month except for the fact that Loot Crate also packed an awesome pocket watch, and I can’t decide between them.
And the exclusive Deathly Hallows pocket watch, also made by Bioworld, is an excellent piece, with the deathly hallows inscribed on the front and also an image on the interior watch face. The pin on the top is used to set the time and also as the catch to open the timepiece.
The exclusive Prophecy Pin, made by Quantum Mechanix, is such a weighty pin that it has a double pin back to support it. The front of it is finely detailed, with the scales of the double-headed snake so meticulous that they look laser-etched. The gunmetal gray pin, with its faux mother of pearl center, has a neutral coloration that will look outstanding on most fabrics, although I recommend black or off white if you want to draw attention to the pin.
These exclusive Platform 9 3/4 socks, made by Bioworld, are also very showy, with argyle tops, red and grey striped bottoms, and the “Hogwarts 9 3/4 Express” sign that should peek out over your shoe mouth. These look amazing, and they feel great too–I’m wearing mine right now.
I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels the Time-Turner is wasted on the Hogwarts intelligentsia that want to use it only as a learning aid, rather than using it to shoehorn in hedonistic pastimes like television, video games, or what have you, and still get your to-do list done. Hermione’s ultimate cheat, an exclusive Time-Turner necklace made by Bioworld, was included as well, and it’s an excellent jewelry item that is also a reminder of one of the most haunting yet humorous arcs in the books, Harry and Hermione race to un-murder Sirius and Buckbeak.
As I mentioned last time, Ron may be my favorite Harry Potter character–I’m partial to characters that wear their hearts on their sleeves, and love potions notwithstanding, know where they stand–and I was delighted to see the Funko POP! vinyl figure of Ron Weasley in his Yule Ball attire. Subscribers could also receive Hermione in her Yule Ball gown, Luna Lovegood, or Sirius Black.
Unfortunately, the Time Spinner has stopped twirling, and you’ve run out of time to buy “A Matter of Time,” but through this hyperlink you can order Loot Crate’s third Wizarding World crate, “Hogwarts House Pride,” until March 3rd, 2017.
